The 3rd IPB International Conference on Nutrition and Food (ICNF 2024), held on October 7-8, 2024, was a resounding success, organized by the Department of Community Nutrition, Faculty of Human Ecology, IPB University, in collaboration with the Department of Nutrition, UPM, and IPB Training. With the theme “Sustainable Nutrition and Food for Human Development”, the event received strong support from the International Research Institute (LRI) for Food, Nutrition, and Health at IPB University, as part of the 2024 Inter-University Center of Excellence Grant Program (PUAPT). The event was also made possible by generous sponsors such as Sarihusada, USSEC Soybean Indonesia, Energen from Mayora, Kara from Sambu Group, Unilab Perdana, Gaga, IPB Press, and Beyondly from Paragon.
ICNF 2024 created a platform for experts to collaborate in addressing global food and nutrition security challenges. Attendees engaged with renowned speakers, participated in in-depth discussions, and explored innovative solutions that will contribute to a more secure future in food and nutrition. From registration, manuscript preparation, and presentations to the forthcoming publication phase, the dedication and hard work of all participants were evident. The conference also aimed to foster stronger partnerships between academia, industry, and policymakers to build a healthier and more sustainable future.
The event featured prominent speakers, including Prof. Dr. Hardinsyah, MS (IPB University), Prof. Dr. Vimal Karani (University of Reading, UK), Prof. Dr. Norhasmah Sulaiman (Universiti Putra Malaysia), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurul Huda (Universiti Malaysia Sabah), Prof. Eleni Andreou, RDN, DProf, FHEA (University of Nicosia, Cyprus), and Prof. Dr. Aimee Sheree A. Barion (University of the Philippines Los Baños). Special sessions included insights from Prof. Stephen P. Bird (University of Southern Queensland, Australia), Prof. Dr. Ahmad Sulaeman (IPB University), and Dr. Dadi H. Maskar (USSEC Indonesia).
The conference began with welcoming remarks from Prof. Dr. Katrin Roosita, Head of the Department of Community Nutrition, followed by a speech from IPB Rector Prof. Dr. Arif Satria, and concluded with remarks by conference chair Dr.agr. Eny Palupi and closing words from the Dean of the Faculty of Human Ecology, Dr. Sofyan Sjaf.
ICNF 2024 drew 136 participants, including 132 presenters. A total of 132 research papers were shared, with 129 manuscripts accepted for publication in collaboration with the Malaysian Journal of Medicine and Health Sciences (MJMHS) and Web of Conferences.
The presented manuscripts spanned four key thematic areas:
- Clinical Nutrition (CL): 6 oral presentations and 4 poster presentations
- Community Nutrition (CO): 49 oral presentations and 17 poster presentations
- Food Innovation (FI): 37 oral presentations and 6 poster presentations
- Food and Nutrition Systems (FN): 12 oral presentations and 1 poster presentation
In total, the conference hosted 104 oral presentations and 28 e-poster presentations, underscoring its significance as a hub for research and collaboration in the field of nutrition and food security.
